What a really relaxed place I have discovered in the Canary Island of La Palma.
From the time I stepped off the plane and was met by my dear & special German friend Susanne, to this time one week later, I have discovered a beautiful little island of calm and peace, serenity and mysticism. The air, the mountains, the sea and the people all invite you to do nothing but relax and smile.
The character of this island changes from place to place and in such a small place there seem to be condensed many sights and changing aspects and weather.
You see the sun shining on the top of one hill as the clouds waft across the other mountain peaks. There is a “wave” of clouds which sweeps across the distant horizon like a tsunami about to envelop all in its path.
Then there are the salt pans with their tiny snow” peaks and the black sandy shores that slide into the dark blue of the seas surrounding the island. Each one brings a sense of universal understanding and belonging.
Santa Cruz was a different feel again today with it views across to Gomera and the sight of Mount Teide on Tenerife. We have spent a nice time there today browsing the shops and having a lovely lunch before my friend took me to the airport where I caught a plane back to Barcelona and on to Tarragona by bus tonight (hopefully).
It was so clear this morning when we departed Los Llanos de Aridane that I am sure that tonight I would have seen the stars in a black clear sky. So far I only read or heard about their magnitude and clarity in the heavens above this isle. They are supposed to be so fabulously clear from this lovely and peaceful place and also a main reason for the observatories here.
Although it can sometimes feel sad to leave a place of beauty. I do however have a feeling that I will return some day to view the night skies and share again the peace of this very spiritual, calming and heavenly little place they call La Palma
